JOB ROLE

The surveyor will work in selected States and Counties in South Sudan where Primary Sampling Units (PSU) have been selected. The Surveyor will lead the field soil sampling exercise with the help of assistants to be locally sourced in the field.  S/he will coordinate with the Country Supervisor or the CEO to ensure quality control and smooth running of the field exercise.

BACKGROUND.

Nile Agro-Tech and Seed Company Limited (NATSCO) is a South Sudanese Agribusiness and Research Company established in 2017 and legally registered in 2019 with registration number 31614. The company provide specialized agriculture services to smallholder farmers, large scale farmers, group farmers, companies and NGOs. NATSCO services are research-based with modern innovative solutions backed by highly experienced and qualified Scientists. Nile Agro-Tech and seed Company limited is contracted to conduct soil survey for the EU Soil 4 Africa project in South Sudan by International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) under Agreement Number AG-6073.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with state or County agriculture department for smooth field operations.
  • PSU, SSU and TSU identification by proper use of equipment and tools such as the GPS gadgets or field maps (longitudes, latitudes)
  • Mobilization of human resources to execute sampling task.
  • Research and design methods for survey processes.
  • Conducting the soil samples as per the standard procedures.
  • Proper handling of the soil samples before transportation (soil composite, packaging and labelling)
  • Transparent resource management during field activities.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to field staffs.
  • Collaborate with Country supervisor and Juba technical teams on progress.

Requirements and skills

  • Previous experience as a surveyor or in a similar role
  • Working knowledge of GPS and GIS
  • Tech savvy, including familiarity with CAD software
  • Aptitude in math and problem-solving
  • Attention to detail
  • Great organizational and leadership skills
  • Degree in agriculture science (soil science, land and water resource management, agronomy), Civil Engineering or a similar field, valid certificates are required
